Modigliani Picasso and the Voices of Modernity from the LaM Museum
La mostra si è conclusa il 25 gennaio 2026
16 October 2025 – 25 January 2026An extraordinary art collection from one of the most important museums in Northern Europe and France will be at the heart of a new major exhibition in Palazzo Zabarella this autumn.
As part of the dialogue initiated by the Bano Foundation in recent years with internationally renowned museum institutions, it is now the turn of the LaM, Lille Métropole Musée d'art moderne, d'art contemporain et d'art brut to give visitors the opportunity to admire 65 works by 30 avant-garde artists in a major exhibition. The protagonists of the historical avant-garde and the most famous artists will be joined by others, opening up new artistic scenarios that are closer to the present. Among the numerous masterpieces are five paintings by Pablo Picasso and six by Amedeo Modigliani.
Curated by Jeanne-Bathilde Lacourt the exhibition brings together great names and masterpieces, structured in six thematic sections offering an in-depth study of the Cubist avant-garde including paintings by Picasso and Georges Braque before going on to consider Fernard Léger’s "Tubism", with no less than six of his paintings.
Amedeo Modigliani holds a place of honour within the exhibition, with an exceptional group of works including Moïse Kisling, Red-haired Boy, Nude seated with Shirt and Maternity. These paintings, created at different moments in Modigliani’s brief yet intense career, reveal the rich variety and emotional depth of his artistic expression.
Alongside these iconic works are singular and poetic creations by major 20th century figures such as Joan Miró, Youla Chapoval, André Lanskoy, Alexander Calder and Bernard Buffet, offering visitors a broad panorama of European art across the twentieth and twenty-first centuries.
The exhibition also shines a spotlight on self-taught artists known as naïfs, such as Gertrude O’Brady and Camille Bombois as well as works produced under spiritualist influence of Auguste Lesage and Victor Simon. In addition, creations of Outsider Art are presented, revealing alternative paths to artistic expression, imbued with both poetry and profound spirituality.
The exhibition is a polyphonic narrative, a unique and precious opportunity to encounter and admire iconic masterpieces by some of the greatest masters of the twentieth century, alongside lesser known but equally powerful voices of modernity.
